The Lone Pine on Raddon Hill: etching and aquatint with Chine Collé
The wind is up on Raddon Hill and I would be there too,
where the Lone Pine rides out storm and gale,
looking to the Sidmouth Gap with a sweeping view
from Haldon Forest to Dartmoor beyond the Creedy Vale.
The sun is up on Raddon Hill and I would be there too
chasing the clouds’ shadows over the sheep-cropped grass
along the Stone Age Causeway that my forebears knew,
six thousand years ago they trod where now I pass.
You’ll see the world from Raddon Hill and you can see me too
I’m up on the top by the Lone Pine, and I’ve come to watch the dragon fly
from Cadbury Castle to Killerton, in legends that are true,
chased by the West wind in the streaming sun, across the bright blue sky.
